I wonder what would happen if human cloning was embraced. The possibilities, they are endless.
Seriously, it wasn't even 6 months after the $4/gallon gas cooled down before people started buying up SUVs again.

As a musician I can speak from a good deal of experience.I have smoked a lot of pot in my day...mostly later in life. I found it helpful in many respects as a way to calm nerves, commune with others in creative enjoyment and also it has helped me to better get in touch with and maintain my physical well being. It does have some psychedelic properties that can vary from very mild to sometimes fairly extraordinary effects - depending on the person and the grade of the weed. Because of this I think it should be regulated but more importantly I think a conversation about marijuana must include psychological discussion. Unfortunately this harbors the biggest problem - probably the root of the whole damn thing. The public at large has a great deal of difficulty addressing psychology and how to define the workings of the mind in relation to psychoactive drugs and "reality" itself. This can lead to very serious and hysterical displays of "sober" fear and naturally some turn to religion or local traditions and politics to escape the difficult task of analyzing accurately how the mind interprets reality. Some can only approach this subject with a great deal of trepidation and suspicion because the nature of religion, tradition and politics is to define reality FOR YOU and people want to feel their beliefs are right and justified. Psychedelic drugs therefore can only be a threat to these institutions - there is no way around it. For this reason it may always be illicit to some and will never gain public full endorsement. I have gone for extended periods of time without marijuana and that is fine with me. I do not think marijuana is a requirement for artists and musicians but for some it does seem to be helpful. Chronic use can be a problem but that again raises more direct questions of personal psychology. The notion that marijuana users should only rely on an underground and illegal sources is very wrong and reflects on the public's inability to thoroughly engage what it takes to creatively understand perceptions of reality. As someone who no longer smokes marijuana (never went to rehab btw) I can clearly see just how draconian some political leaders are in taking advantage of public confusion in order to indulge in displays of unnecessary games of ugly and abusive power. But until the public gains more knowledge about the mind and deeper levels of psychology the public will always be vulnerable to these games...and loose any potential blessings but for what the unpredictable (and also abusive) underground has to offer. From what I have seen about 85% - 95% of the creative and performing arts community uses marijuana on an ongoing basis - at least weekly if not daily. The social hypocrisy of this is astonishing and very probably psychologically harmful. (Sad that people often have to escape from the public's general pathos in order to engage their profession and maintain a sense of functional balance. :/ )?
If you're having trouble living with $100,000 a year, you're doing something wrong. You're either living in a place you really can't afford or your ex-wife had a really good lawyer. |
