It's insane that we're subsidizing the utilities costs to produce power to *sell* across the grid not subsidizing homeowners to install panels that reduce grid load in the first place.We should put in an incentive for home builders to add the $200 worth of conduits and mounts to EVERY house they make so that later the owner can add the panels without having to spend thousands of dollars to rip their roof apart. Our current plans pay a small part of a huge bill to the home owner to go solar because of the incredible amount of roof labor required. Instead we should subsidize the SMALL cost of making homes ready of panels. It would cut the total cost in half if the mounts and conduits were on the roofs already because of how much less labor would be required.Our current incentive plans are absurd.!

My mom was driving on the I-5, which has a concrete barrier, about three years ago when a car lost control, jumped the barrier, and launched into her car which was in the slow lane. It ended up only glancing off her car, but it landed on the car in back of her. A child in the car which jumped the median was killed and the man driving the car in back of her was left paralyzed. Her car was basically crushed around her and they had to use the jaws of life to get her out. Because she was driving a Suburban, she was able to make it out with just a small cut on her forehead. Had the car hit at any other angle or had she been driving another car, she probably would have been killed instantly. Accidents like these take a toll on both the person involved and people that are close to them. I was 17 at the time and it isn't exactly easy getting the news that the person you've depended on for most of your life was hit head on on the freeway. I just remember my dad talking on the phone and hearing head on collision, freeway, and life flight. I was expecting my mom to either be dead by the time we got to the hospital, dying, or severely injured. I hoped that she would be alright, but realistically the last thing I expected was for her to come out of a head on collision with just a small cut. She did suffer whiplash which eventually went away but she does not remember the event at all. She came out of it with a new outlook on life and now values every day she is alive. Her boyfriend's daughter who was sitting in the back seat came out of it uninjured, but remembers the event and still has nightmares about it. The video doesn't show how powerful an event like this can be on someone's life.

I'll just stick my my regular old 2.0T FSI in my GTI. It gets me 28 mpg when I need it, but can be a ton of fun when I'm in the mood (even if mileage goes to 14 mpg).
