Robert L. Rogers Sr., 76 of rural Iowa City died Friday, March 11, 2011, at his home surrounded by many of his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Masonic Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to establish a scholarship in Bob’s memory for young people to pursue a career in agriculture. Robert Lawrence Rogers was born March 1, 1935, in Iowa City the son of Lawrence and Emma (Neuzil) Rogers. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City. On June 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marjory Hedges at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City. Robert has been a lifetime farmer in this area, was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the Masonic Lodge, and was a man that enjoyed life, his friends, and especially loved his family. That was what it was all about!

His family includes his wife, Marjory; children, Robert L. Jr. (Debra), Jerald, Kevin (Jayne) all of Iowa City, Lawrence (Denise) of Altoona, IA, and Valli Griffin (Jerry) of Mount Pelier, IA; grandchildren, Trenton (Tanya), Tyler (Jen), Thaddeus (Sarah), Travis (Katie), Jason (Maren), Brandon (Katie), Colton, Keaton, Kynsie, Kealie, and Andy; great-grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, McKenna, Xander, Toryn, Kooper, Chloe, and Emma; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Campbell (Wayne) of Cosgrove, and Ruth Coblentz of Riverside; many treasured nieces and nephews; and his trusted companion, “Dog”.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Rogers, son Richard Rogers, an infant granddaughter, and granddaughter, Brittany.

Larry R. Cochran, 69 of rural Oxford died Thursday, November 11, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hosptials and Clinics.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin. Burial will follow at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 6pm. Larry Richard Cochran was born June 8, 1941, in Iowa City, the son of John and Leona (Schropp) Cochran. He graduated with the Class of 1959 from City High School in Iowa City. He had married Juanita Frese, later he married Gail Rogers on June 4, 1998, in Iowa City. Larry has spent his entire life in this area, he farmed, worked for Amana Refrigeration, and was in insurance sales. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a member of the Canopy Lodge A.F. & A.M., and the Shriners.

Brother Larry served the lodge as Master in 1979, 1980, 1993, 2006, 2007, and 2008.

He was instrumental in establishing our present scholarship program and without a doubt the leader in the effort to fund this worthwhile project.

Brother Larry exemplified the tenants of Freemasonry by the way he treated his fellow humans but more especially a Brother Mason.

His family includes his wife, Gail; two children, Jeff Cochran (Chris) of Oxford; and Lisa Feinberg (Phil) of Ft. Madison; three grandchildren, Tanner and Shelby Cochran, and Arron Feinberg; two brothers, John J. Cochran (Carol) of Iowa City and Dan Cochran (Mary) of Ankeny; and one sister, Rebecca Umland (Sam) of Kearney, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Paula.

Larry has laid down his working tools but continues his labors in that celestial lodge above.

Dr. Geoffrey McLennan

Geoffrey McLennan was born in South Australia on November 28, 1947. He obtained his medical degree, doctor of philosophy and membership to the Royal Australian College of Physicians in Adelaide, Australia. After completing his extended specialist training in Adelaide, he trained for two years in alveolar macrophage function at the University of Iowa under the guidance of Dr Zavala before returning to Adelaide as a Senior Staff Specialist in Thoracic Medicine.

He was a truly brilliant man, taken too soon, but whose legacy will continue. He always made time to help others, and you were his friend no matter if you were his student, colleague, neighbor, or associate. Respected by hundreds for the way he changed the world and his dedication to medicine and his family. At the time of his death, Geoffrey was Professor of Medicine, Radiology, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa. An inspiration to everyone he touched, a friend to many, a hero to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Christine McLennan, who was always by his side; daughter Rebecca McLennan and her husband Cameron H.J. Cooper of Kansas City, Missouri; sons Benjamin McLennan and his wife Rebecca, of Wellman, IA and Samuel Thomas McLennan and his fiancée Katharine J. Walker of London, U.K; grandson Declan Geoffrey McLennan Cooper; mother Audrey E.C. McLennan, and his loving extended family.

The family greeted friends from 4-7 pm on Monday, November 3, 2008 at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin. A Masonic prayer service, conducted by Bro. Bill Ganschow followed at 7 pm with 37 Masons in attendance. A Celebration of Life Service on Tuesday at 6 pm was also held at the church.

Rob was born June 12, 1955 in Grundy Center, IA, the son of Robert Chabal and Doris (Hooper) Chabal. In June of 1982 he was married to Shari Hinkhouse at Danforth Chapel on the campus of The University of Iowa.

Rob graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1973, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Iowa Citizenship Award along with the John Danforth “I Dare You” Award. He attended The University of Iowa where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity and earned his BS in Pharmacy in 1979. Rob has been a pharmacist in Coralville since 1982 and for the last 15 years for Hy-Vee Pharmacy. Rob loved his patients and was a role model and mentor for many pharmacy students from The University of Iowa.

Rob was a member of the Oxford Methodist Church and the Canopy Masonic Lodge #290 where he was initiated 02-15-2007 passed 02-22-2007 and raised 03-27-2007. He enjoyed running, playing guitar, working outside on his acreage near Oxford, snow skiing and walking the beaches of Maui. He absolutely loved being with his family and “hanging with” his two daughters.

Rob is survived by his loving wife and wonderful daughters Chloe and Grace who attend school at Clear Creek Amana. His parents of Grundy Center; his sister Jan Larson and her husband Jeff Larson of Austin, TX; nieces Hannah and Sonya, also of Austin; mother-in-law Faye Hinkhouse of Correctionville, IA; a brother-in-law Jay Hinkhouse of Ames, as well as all of his great patients and friends.

Rob was preceded in death by his father-in-law James Hinkhouse of Correctionville.

Gordon L. Harker, 73, of Amana, formerly of Oxford, died Friday, October 31, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Oxford, with burial at Oxford Cemetery.

Gordon Lee Harker was born July 9, 1935, in Iowa City the son of Virgil and Oleta “Lettie” (Ingwersen) Harker. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1953 and served in the Army from the late 1950’s to early 1960’s. Gordon worked at Amana Refrigeration for many years before retiring in 1995. Gordon was a lifetime resident of Oxford until he moved to Amana in 2004. He enjoyed camping, boating, playing the accordion and organ.

His family includes his sister, Lois Harker of Davenport, IA; brother, Dale Harker of Oxford, IA; nieces and nephews, Barbara Harker-Palmer and her husband Tim Palmer of Oxford, Randy Harker and his wife, Teresa of Oxford, and Laurie Harker of Minneapolis, MN; and a great-nephew, Creed Harker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister in infancy, and sister-in-law Dede Harker.

Gordon was initiated into Canopy Lodge 05-20-1971, passed 10-29-1971 and raised 01-14-1072.

Daniel K. Darrow, 74, of Iowa City died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Hope United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Visitation was from 4 to 7pm Tuesday, followed by a Masonic Memorial Service, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Daniel Knox Darrow was born December 3, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Cleo and Matilda (Chadima) Darrow. Following graduation from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids he attended Coe College. On December 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Charlotte L. Mick in Cedar Rapids. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He was stationed with Antiaircraft Artillery in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Returning to Cedar Rapids, Daniel began a career with Hometown Dairy, which later became Roberts Dairy. He worked with them from 1959 until his retirement in 1994. In 1967 he and his family moved to Iowa City.

He was a member of the Canopy Lodge #290 of A.F.& A.M., of Oxford, having served as Past Master; an active member of Hope United Methodist Church, and a former member of Old Capital Kiwanis Club. Dan was an avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Iowa City Babe Ruth League, the Iowa City Ducks Rugby Team, Hope UMC softball team, and any other sport in which his children and grandchildren participated. In the early 1950s he marched with the Cedar Rapids Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps.

His family includes his wife, Charlotte; their children, Douglas Darrow (Pam) of Oxford, Diane Coffin (Allen) of Iowa City, Charles “Chuck” Darrow (Sarah McWilliams) of North Liberty, and Patrick Darrow (Penny) of Westmoreland, TN; nine grandchildren, Justin Wade (Rachel), Lael Neal (Kevin), Landon Wade (Tessa), Dylan Wade (Katie), Kayla Darrow, Karisa Darrow, Nathaniel Coffin, Kaitlyn Coffin, and Morgan Shock; three-great-grandchildren, sisters, Doreen Sue Currey (Bill) Cedar Rapids and Kathleen McCarty (Lee) Ankeny, IA.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom, a daughter, and a grandson.

Dan’s family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Feely and his staff at Mercy Cancer Care, Dr. Zeitler, all the staff of the I.C.U. and the 4th Floor at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
